Breaking The Silence
A visit to hand over the Menstrual Hygiene Kit was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Judah as the closing event for the SULAM project titled "Breaking The Silence: Raising Awareness on Period Poverty." The project was carried out by students from the Diploma in Communication (DCOM), Diploma in Interactive New Media (DINM), and Diploma in Design and Creative Content (DDCC), Sunway Diploma Studies (SDS).
The visit was attended by Ms. Izzati and Mr. Idham, lecturers for Group 6 of the MPU 2442 Education for Sustainability Development subject, together with Cik Nabilah and Encik Ismail as SULAM lecturers. Three student representatives from the Diploma in Communication programme, Yap Zhi Ru, Anis Qistina, and Nur Ilyna Sofea, also participated in the visit.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by Encik Samsul Fadilah Bin Asmara, Headmaster of SK Sungai Judah, and Puan Mai, a teacher at the school. The programme began with the symbolic handover of the Menstrual Hygiene Kit to the school. This was followed by the implementation of The Pink Corner, located near the female students' toilet area. The initiative aims to provide free access to sanitary pads for students while raising awareness about menstrual hygiene and health management.
The project received very positive feedback from the school, particularly from the Headmaster, who expressed appreciation for the efforts and commitment of everyone involved. This initiative not only supported the basic needs of students but also served as an important platform to raise awareness of period poverty while fostering empathy, social responsibility, and sustainability among students.
